Monitor tour

Find and explore Osaka's sustainable foods, the endless journey of appeal

Concept
Osaka products and Terroir (Current) x History and Culature (Past) x SDGs-oriented Future Society

Overview
Event Period: December 8th (Thursday) to December 9th (Friday), 2022

We conducted a monitor tour to deepen our awareness of the appeal of the food of the Nakagouchi and Minamikawachi regions, which have been nurtured along with the climate, by visiting Osaka producers and experiencing harvesting. They also learned about Osaka's traditional manufacturing and the history of manufacturing in Nakagouchi and Minamikawachi, which is based on the Japanese "mottainai spirit" brought about by history and culture, and explored a sustainable future society.

A course that examines future society through exploration of Osaka products and climate.

Day1Kashiwara CityVineyard tour and wine tasting at Kawachi Winery "Katashimo Winery"

Kawachi Wine "Katashimo Winery" is the oldest existing winery in western Japan, founded in 1919. In addition to producing wine, we also contribute to town development by purchasing old folk houses in order to preserve the scenery of Kashiwa for the next 100 years. The careful work that goes into using as much organic matter as possible in the fields and the spirit of devoting all efforts to making high-quality wine, which has been passed down from the founder, could be felt in the depth of the wines I sampled.

sustainable point

In order to continue producing grapes for the next 100 years, we are conducting research every year to improve and breed grapes that can only be produced in Japan and that can withstand Japan's global warming and other environmental changes.

As a measure against global warming, we are applying the method of growing grapes for eating raw to wine, and are cultivating various hybrid grapes for eating raw as experimental cultivation.

*Mottainai spirit = Uses organic fertilizer. We started the Tsumugu Wine Project in 2021 in collaboration with companies, and as part of this project we are using reused wine bottles.

Day1Kashiwara CityDyeing experience at Okada Dyeing Factory

We experienced dyeing at the Okada dyeing factory, which has specialized in seal dyeing (shirushizome) since its founding and continues to carry out traditional handwork. The small workshop felt like an atelier, and I couldn't help but admire the careful craftsmanship that cannot be expressed by machines.

sustainable point

We manufacture to order festival happi coats for the Danjiri Festival, which has been passed down in Senshu and Minamikawachi.
As the number of young people participating in festivals is decreasing due to the declining birthrate, I am trying to contribute to regional continuity, solidarity, and regional revitalization through my business.
From the perspective of continuity, in addition to inheriting the techniques of our predecessors, we are also exploring new and original "in-dying" techniques and are planning to create our own brand, "Hyaku-in-zome" (manufacture and sale of various fabric products with original designs).

Day1Habikino CityVisit fig cultivation tour “Fujii Farm”

We toured Fujii Farm, which has been cultivating "Osaka figs" outdoors for over 50 years. Seeing the high quality figs and vegetables that are grown with so much love made me realize once again that we need to take into account the feelings of the producers and value our food.

sustainable point

People who rarely have the opportunity to eat raw figs can enjoy new discoveries and experiences as food content.

We receive compost made from horse manure from a nearby horse riding center, creating a sustainable cycle of local production.

Day2ShimoakasakaStroll through the rice terraces of Chihaya Akasaka Village

We took a walk through the rice terraces of Chihaya Akasaka Village, which has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 rice terraces. The rice terraces that can be seen from the high ground have a very nostalgic feel, and I was reminded once again that this is an important piece of Japan's original scenery that should be preserved.

Day2Kawachinagano
City
Visit Osaka Kongoren “Sudare Museum”

We saw a large number of materials, including rare domestic and foreign blinds with high historical value, valuable tools and machines from the time, and scrolls, literature, and videos. I was able to experience the supple and beautiful traditional Japanese techniques, and was able to reaffirm the ``charm'' and ``value'' of bamboo blinds.

sustainable point

Sudare is being reevaluated as a sustainable material because it takes advantage of bamboo's characteristics of fast growth and excellent durability.

By using bamboo from the local area, Kanan Town, and incorporating local production for local consumption, we contribute to SDGs such as regional revitalization and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

Day2Higashiosaka
City
Tour and explanation at manufacturing company “Aoki Co., Ltd.”

We toured a representative company in Higashi-Osaka that takes on challenges in everything from the space industry to everyday items with the spirit of craftsmanship. I learned a lot from President Osamu Aoki's explanation, and I learned a lot from listening to his thoughts on Japan's future as a "manufacturing powerhouse" and his passion for the children who will support Japan in the future.

sustainable point

We are a company that is working towards achieving eight of the SDGs. For example, in response to the goal of ``6 Safe water and toilets around the world,'' we are working to remove contaminated water by manufacturing contaminated water dilution and discharge machines.

Regarding the development of tourism content and the planning and creation of model courses in the Minami-Osaka/Kawachi area to attract educational tourism.

In recent years, the need for experiential content with the keyword "exploratory learning" has increased tremendously. We will develop and model tourism content with the themes of "SDGs" and "sustainability" that have "educational value" and "regional uniqueness" from local resources scattered in the Minami-Osaka/Senshu and Kawachi regions. Through the planning and creation of courses, we will establish a system for accepting students who can connect with them in cooperation with local businesses.
