Farm tour and towel painting experience
In collaboration with the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau, a public interest incorporated foundation, approximately 100 Korean high school students participated in the "Ikana MOTTAINAI" project for fiscal year 2021, a two-day tour of Senshu, Osaka, where they experienced SDGs and learned about efforts to combat food waste and promote local production and consumption. We would like to share some of their experiences with you. (Implemented in February 2021)
Iteya Farm (Izumisano City)
The first place we visited was Iteya Farm (Izumisano City).
This farm has been in business since the Edo period and grows Naniwa vegetables such as Senshu onions and Senshu cabbage.
The event began with an educational session where the president spoke about agriculture and the local SDGs. Afterwards, we toured the farm and enjoyed delicious okonomiyaki made with Senshu vegetables.
Fukuroya towel
The next place we visited was Fukuroya Towel.
The event began with a lecture from the company president on the company's founding history, its efforts to promote "waste not" (meaning "not wanting to waste") as part of the SDGs, and the importance of building alliances to revitalize the local community. The participants then had the opportunity to paint towels using paint made from a liquid extracted from discarded vegetables.
The stamps used for painting were made from plastic bottle caps, based on the concept of not wanting to waste things. Each student was able to experience the color development of vegetable dyes in their own way.
